Louise had told me that the bird feeder gets quite busy when we are not in the garden, So while clearing out the small bedroom I opened the window wide and kept an eye on the feeder and sure enough the feeder got quite busy with some squabbling going on between the birds, I think there is not enough room for them all. I did manage to get this photo with my iPhone showing 7 Greenfinches and 2 Goldfinches.

While out playing oliver spotted a spider on the safety mat at the end of his slide, He got down close for a better look and coaxed the spider onto his hand and let it walk up his arm, He likes to look at bugs and has always wanted to hold them since he was 2 years old, The first thing he held was a huge Toad we found on the canal side. Back to the spider here are some photos of him with the spider.
Adrian Yesterday there where lots of bugs flying around our flower bed so I decided to get the camera out and try to film them instead of just photographing them. When shooting macro the depth of field gets narrower so you have to get your focus on one point and hope the insects land there, Well that's what I did anyway. I filmed this clip on my Lumix GX-1 with the 14-42 power zoom lens and attached a +10 macro lens filter to the end of the lens. I do need to experiment with this as shooting macro videos is new to me, I am quite pleased with a couple of the shots in this clip. Hope you find it interesting.
Adrian Last weekend we went for a lovely walk along the canal at Saville Town Wharfe in Dewsbury and while we were there we saw a tent where the conservation volunteers were letting people make bat boxes and bird houses, we chose to make a bat box. Oliver did most of the hammering of nails and really enjoyed it. Then later in the week we put the bat box up on the side of our house, no bats have moved in yet but it can take a while.
Louise Dead Bird Yesterday morning when we went into the garden we spotted a few feathers around the bird feeder and then I spotted some blood behind the swing and behind our wicker fence, It was fresh so the cat must have just caught the bird, we think it was either a Pigeon or a Collard Dove going by the colour of the feathers, We do have a Collard Dove visiting our garden whose partner was killed a few months back, So we will just have to watch and see who turns up over the next few days. Trail Camera
We are awaiting delivery of a trail camera, these are wildlife cameras that detect the heat of an animal and then starts taking photos or video of them automatically so when we are not in the garden we will see what visits, This will mean we will be able to put up more footage of the birds and we will see what visits at night too. We've had another visit to our butterfly feeding station another Speckled Wood, Today was sunny and warm and our flower beds where very active with hoverflies and I spotted a green flat bug that is a first sighting in our garden and I have still to identify it.
Adrian I just nipped out to the bins when I saw the Squirrel on top of the shed roof, So I thought I'd try and sneak up on it and get some photos. As I got closer the Squirrel jumped up into the tree, I did notice that it hadn't gone all the way up the branch so I decided to creep up to the shed and hide there, I then got my iPhone out and poked it up above the shed roof and saw the Squirrel coming towards me so I snapped off a few photos and this is what I got. The Squirrel was interested in my iPhone.
Adrian Seen a couple of Caterpillars today, I have no Idea what they are so I will put then up on iSpot later today.
