We set the Ltl Acorn camera up in the garden in the hope of filming the Hedgehog, But the Hedgehog didn't appear all week so we got some good footage of the birds visiting, Watch out for the robin that starts to choke on some Hedgehog food but manages to get rid of it thankfully.
Beautiful day today so I've been out in the garden taking a few photos and listening to the birds.
Spotted the first Ladybird of the year and there was a small green bug flying about but I couldn't get a photo of that, The niger seed that was caught in the sieve has started sprouting. I've had questions about how I attach a close up lens to the Ltl Acorn 6210 camera, Well as you can see in the picture left I used Blu Tack, The close up lenses are the ones you screw onto SLR camera lenes and you can get them quite cheaply on eBay. The Blu Tack worked perfectly in the -4 snowy weather we have just had. As you can see the lenses I have go over the LEDs at the top and over the PIR sensor at the bottom of the lens, This does cause some glare on night images from the LEDs. I have found some 37mm close up lenses on eBay I intend getting sometime soon. I set the trail camera up on the new post I fixed to the shed facing the Squirrel feeder hoping to catch the Squirrel visiting. I put a +4 close up lens on the camera due to the closeness of the feeder.
The Squirrel didn't visit today but I did get some good shots of the Jays that visit, watch out for the comedy moment at the end. One thing we have never had is a bird bath installed, we have talked about it for quite a while but it's just one of those things that we have not got round to putting in, we have 2 little ponds but I've never seen the birds drink or bathe in them. Yesterday we decided to make a makeshift bird bath and set up the trail camera, so we got a small cat litter tray filled it with water and put a flat stone in it so it wasn't too deep and set the camera up and waited. We had 3 visits from a female Blackbird and a Jay, neither had a bath, the blackbird had a drink and the Jay just looked straight at the camera.
I attached a +2 macro lens filter to our Ltl Acorn camera and put it out today and spread some seed on the ground to get some close up shots of the birds feeding on the ground, The birds that came today were Chaffinch, Robin, Blackbirds, Dunnock, Collared Dove and Blue tit.
We took delivery of a Ltl Acorn 6210 trail camera before christmas, Here is a short video test of what we filmed the other day. The video was filmed in 1280 x 720 HD, But this camera saves the video at about 5 Mbits per second so the resulting HD video is lacking some detail and looks better at half the size at 640 x 360, It would be better if it saved the video at around 10 Mbits per second, something I'm going to look into.
Below the video is a still from the HD video. Adrian I set the camera up to film the Jays again today but they didn't turn up while I was filming so here is a short video of the Great Tits and Blue Tits that did turn up.
